ANIME – HOME

I have noticed for sometime that Japanese dub anime characters often say these two words in English as one word expressions. Some examples that stick out are Haruko in flcl and Luffy in One Piece. I always find the way they are used to be funny but I was wondering if these words commonly used this way in real life (obviously informal) Japanese conversations?

I’m not sure of the exact phrase you are referring to but maybe I can help anyway.It’s most likely due to translation. In Japanese the word for I and me is watashi or watakushi depending on formality. I was watching naruto recently and he saw something he didn’t believe.

Naruto said,"Watashi… watashi…" in Japanese. It subtitled as "I… I…" but the English audio dubbed as, "I just don’t… I just can’t…" This was done so that the English audio would match up with his lip movements.
