The only manga out of those I’ve actually read a bit of is Death Note (I only bought the first 3 volumes), I’ve seen the anime and it rockz, but I bet the manga is even better =)
The plot is really unique and the characters are really cool, it’s a manga you just have to read till the end, oh and the manga, anime and live-action films all have alternative endings >.<

i’m an otaku and i do have a room full of anime dvds, manga, action figures, stuff like that. some friends and classmates really make fun of the fact that im into anime and all that, i myself dont find it weird at all since anime is so damn good. so is being an otaku really that bad for someones reputation? i really need some honest opinions.

If you’re looking for honest opinions, then I’ll give them.

I don’t really think it’s that bad… I used to be in the same position. That’s all I did, with me and my friends, and always ended getting made fun of from outside people. If your friends are going to make fun of you, you should really find some friends with the same interests…

I’m not sure why Anime gets a bad rep these days. It seems like people are making it the lowest of the low. It really doesn’t make sense to me. But I’m not much of an Otaku anymore. I’ve changed a lot from that. I’ll watch some anime every now and then, but it got a little tedious watching hours and hours on end of some anime. It got boring for me. And all it really did was add to my list of the anime that I watched. 13 hours just to say "Hey, I watched this anime! It was pretty good, you should watch it!" and then move on to something else. Especially if it was going to be something that nobody ever heard of. Unless it’s major, like Naruto or Bleach, nobody is ever going to hear of something like… "Hitomi no Kokoro: Ai Shite" (Yes, I made that up with random Japanese words – don’t try to make sense or correct anything.) And really, something with a title that means more to Japanese doesn’t appeal to me. It just sounds… out there.

Only other thing I don’t like is Otakus have a tendancy to dislike anything that isn’t Japanese. Seriously. "OMG!! Naruto is going to be dubbed in english!!! They’re killing the translation!! it’s murder!!lajglkdajklgja" I mean, really? Is it that big of a deal? I just got over it, due to the fact that how it sounds in english to us, is how it sounds in Japanese. Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu is no different than Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu (Spelling or Jutsu may be off) so why does it being English kill it? Does it matter that much? And I’m just using naruto as a reference to a major Anime.

Other than that. I don’t see it as bad. If it’s something you like to do, then go for it. Just… some people can go overboard with it. Like, WAY overboard. I know people that see everyday life as an anime. And like… they try to copy the antics that anime does. "X hits Y with a book. Y yells "itaaiiii!!! rubs head and acts big-teary eyed T~T. "you didn’t have to hit so hard X-sama!!" just didn’t make sense to me. To me, just those antics are an exaggeration of how you would normally react. Heck, I don’t even think Japanese people act that way. I’m not sure how anime stems a great love for Japan either. It’s like the "Promised Land." I went to Little Tokyo once. Other than signs I couldn’t read and different food, there was no difference betweem here and there. And somehow, going to Japan makes you better among the rest of the Otaku community.

Anyway, this is pretty long so I’ll wrap it up. Is it bad? No, I have many friends who are Otakus. And I didn’t mean to offend anyone with this post either. I’m just giving my honest opinion. But it just got boring to sit there for hours to watch anime and read manga, and then talk about the same thing with friends the next day.

Is there a character (or characters) that everyone else seems to love, but you just can’t stand them? It could be a minor character, side character, or popular main character. And please state why!! (Also use spoiler tags so you won’t give anything away) Please respect other people’s opinions, too.

For me, I have to say Rukia from Bleach. Everyone loves her… But I want her to die and get out of the series XD She was okay, during the first season… But after that, I just want her to go away. I think it could be partially the way the character is designed… She’s hideous… And well, frankly she’s useless. (That’s just my opinion!!) Her personality can be funny at rare moments, but overall she’s so bland I forget she’s even there.

Hihi! I’m currently looking for a new series to watch :p1:

I haven’t finished Bleach yet, but since that’s still going, I want something to watch on the side.

Preferrably something with action and romance mixed there I like a little drama too, just the works would actually do.

I enjoyed Death Note, Code Geass, inuyasha, and Samurai Deeper Kyo if that helps. ^_^
